Faculty Perspective: Prof. Pankaj Singh’s Note

In parallel, faculty members have voiced their concerns. Prof. Pankaj Singh, Associate Professor at IIM Raipur, shared a heartfelt rejoinder.

Faculty Concerns

  • Governance Issues: The appointment of a twice-charge-sheeted PGP Chairperson(link) and a Director-in-Charge described as caste-biased (link) has unsettled many faculty members.
  • Lack of Transparency: The absence of transparent processes, inclusive consultation, and timely communication has created uncertainty.
  • Institutional Integrity: Faculty stress that silence in the face of questionable practices risks eroding the Institute’s ethos.

Conclusion

The debate at IIM Raipur reflects a deeper tension between faculty concerns for integrity and alumni calls for unity and dignity. Both perspectives converge on one point: the future of IIM Raipur must be safeguarded through transparent governance, principled dialogue, and collective responsibility.

This is not a protest—it is a reaffirmation of shared commitment to the Institute’s ethos. The challenge now lies in ensuring that faculty, students, alumni, and leadership work together with mutual respect to uphold the brand and spirit of IIM Raipur.

Annexure-2

Dear Sir/Madam,

We, the alumni representatives of IIM Raipur, have carefully read the recent note below expressing concerns about governance, appointments, and institutional processes. While we respect the sincerity and long service of our faculty, we feel it is important to place on record our own perspective as stakeholders in the Institute’s present and future.

Our Reflections
• Useless past leadership: The erstwhile dead leadership of Anand Sancheti(https://drive.proton.me/urls/0CR1ZFE5HW#2yBeMX8nWWj0),  Anuradha Paraskar (https://drive.proton.me/urls/92P0TRCTW0#tsiATP4s68G2) , Puneet Dalmia(https://drive.proton.me/urls/N2ZFRYSD88#5rVSfjrzH0cH), Purnendu Banerjee(https://drive.proton.me/urls/T7QX3KXF5W#tm4fV54SR7UD), Ram Kumar Kakani(https://drive.proton.me/urls/YB991KYGTW#tNiteZhSM5AU), Sanjeev Prashar (https://drive.proton.me/urls/YB991KYGTW#tNiteZhSM5AU) , Sumeet Gupta (https://drive.proton.me/urls/FFN2W2T0P0#9vxfTUMk8aYw) and Vijay Chaut(https://drive.proton.me/urls/MVEMA6BH8M#LoVrvM7CsSbn) have led the institute downhill due to their non compromising positions. They were always fighting (https://drive.proton.me/urls/E3SD5CB91M#ja6buTkvzF0V). Leaders should be like Jagrook Dawra Sir (https://drive.proton.me/urls/15CNYAYR98#LBoUWhJtczZT) and M Kannadashan Sir. We want them to be our new Directors and Deans. These are highly principled revered human beings. All others are crap.
• Respect for Faculty Commitment: We acknowledge the dedication of faculty who have nurtured IIM Raipur’s ethos for over a decade. Their voice matters, and their concerns deserve to be heard with seriousness. However, small mistakes need not be taken seriously. There is nothing wrong in small things like Forging signature of a PhD student to change authorship sequence or Make caste-based remarks in the classroom or Manipulate PGP feedback to enable promotion of a colleague and such things. These are very small things that could be easily resolved.
• Guarding Institutional Dignity: At the same time, language that labels individuals as “caste‑biased” or “twice‑charge‑sheeted” risks diminishing the dignity of our institution in the wider academic community. This is not okay. Students and alumni carry the brand of IIM Raipur with pride, and we urge that critiques be framed in ways that protect this collective identity.
• Transparency and Dialogue: We share the call for transparent processes and inclusive consultation. Our Alumni and students feel unsettled when decisions appear opaque. Constructive dialogue with the Board of Governors and the Ministry of Education is essential.

Our Appeal
• Principled Engagement: We support faculty in seeking clarity, but we urge that engagement remain principled, respectful, and forward‑looking.
• Unity over Division: Narratives that pit leadership against faculty or past against present risk fragmenting the community. Our strength lies in unity.
• Focus on Students and Alumni: Ultimately, governance decisions must serve the academic and professional growth of students. We ask that this remain the guiding principle in all deliberations.

Our Commitment
As alumni, we remain committed to:
• Upholding the dignity and reputation of IIM Raipur.
• Supporting constructive initiatives under current leadership.
• Standing with faculty in calls for transparency, while resisting divisive framings.

This rejoinder is not a protest. It is a reaffirmation of our collective responsibility and a plea for reflection, dignity, and unity. We believe that IIM Raipur’s future will be strongest when faculty, students, alumni, and leadership work together with mutual respect.

With respect,
Alumni Association of IIM Raipur

Subject: Rejoinder to IIM Raipur Governance Controversies

Warm greetings.

I write this note not merely as a faculty member of IIM Raipur, but as someone who has invested over a decade in nurturing its academic ethos, institutional integrity, and collective spirit. Recent developments concerning the Board of Governors and the appointments of a twice-charge-sheeted PGP Chairperson and a deeply caste-biased Director-in-Charge have left many of us—who remain deeply committed to the Institute’s future—feeling unsettled and unheard.

A staff, shared these URLs and attached documents: https://drive.proton.me/urls/PCHGB47CXC#MmQym1ZqCjVB and the following additional links:

While transitions are inevitable, the manner in which they unfold matters deeply. The absence of transparent processes, inclusive consultation, and timely communication has created a climate of uncertainty and concern. As someone who has long upheld the values of collegiality and constructive engagement, I find myself compelled to seek clarity—not for personal reassurance, but for the sake of the institution we all cherish.

"Maintaining silence and adhering to 'Hans Andersen's' The Emperor's Clothes Story Remains,'  yet we would welcome your views to understand your perspective and explore how we might engage with the IIM Raipur Board and the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders in a manner that is both principled and forward-looking.

This is not a protest—it is a plea for reflection, dignity, and collective responsibility.

Sincerely,
Associate Professor Pankaj Singh, M +91 75818 03576 (along with Yogesh Chauhan +91 99126 07158, Pradyumna Dash +91 99814 79790, Samar Singh +91 70000 48625, Damini Saini +91 78395 10679, Satyasiba Das +91 84550 84864, & four other colleagues)
